Gareth Colwell goes to Durleighmarsh

Hello, my name is Gareth (sometimes known as Smooth G or G-Man) and regular readers may know that been mentioned on this fine blog a couple of times before (here and here). I’ve been promising Charlie a few entries for a while after he kindly asked me…and now I have completed my recent nuptials with Jemma and finally finished my degree I’ve got a few foodie treats I’d like to share with the lovely people of Southsea.

I’ll start with something that is a little bit out of Southsea – but is certainly worth the trip (and a rewarding pint at a country pub afterwards). Durleighmarsh Pick Your Own is located just past Petersfield, and is a veritable treasure trove of super fresh fruit and veg (we got some great Blueberries, Blackberries, Plums and Broad Beans today). It also has a well stocked Farm Shop, which carries a whole range of specialities, including local meat, country wines, sauces, marinades and also some top snacks from Olives et Al.

My favourite find however has been Pratt’s Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil. Made on a family farm here in our very own Hampshire, I’ve previously bought both the Green Chilli Infused Oil (great on Pasta or Pizza) and also the Lemongrass and Ginger one too (perfect for a stir fry). Check out their website here – they don’t appear to have a full list of their products but there is a list of stockists.  Strongly recommended.
