Jamie’s Italian is the new cat in town restaurant-wise, situated in Gunwharf it bears it’s namesake’s stamp of food approval and more importantly; his financial backing. And it shows. The place does look pretty awesome, think modern gastro-warehouse with a faint whiff of rustic vintage-ness. After a quick drink at the bar we were shown to our table where a waiter with impeccable manners made sure that we were well taken care of. The food itself was good and extremely well presented, we shared the olives on ice, a cured meat plank for two and fried squid for starters, for mains I opted for the Ligurian fish stew (I recommend) and Emily went for the steamed sea bass (more sauce would of been welcomed). All of this was washed down with one of the best Montepulciano’s ever. Instead of dessert we opted for a couple of cocktails, great way to round off a great evening. Jamie’s Italian has definitively upped the stakes in the Gunwharf restaurant game, both in terms of style and quality. We went on a week night and the place was packed, let’s hope that the others will start following suit. Massive thanks to Meg for inviting us in for the meal.
