Aaaah Milan. Where gelato shops stay open until 11, great pizzas are only €5 and the ubiquitous Aperol Spritz flow freely. A couple of weeks ago we enjoyed five nights of la dolce vita in this great city for our friends Bobby and Martina’s wedding. I had never been before and was told to expect a slightly industrial and perhaps gritty Italian powerhouse of a city. What I found was a city full of style, historical monuments, good food and great times. The wedding itself was in the wonderfully art deco Villa Singer, north of the city; wonderful from start to finish. The prosecco flowed freely and the food didn’t stop coming (note to us Brits, eating out there is a marathon rather than a sprint). As the day drew to a close the right began in a pretty special converted warehouse abode where we danced the night away. With a couple of days take don either side for sight seeing (the San Bernadino ossuary being a highlight) this european getaway was beyond perfect on every level. Grazie mille Milano, we’ll be back.
